What kind of job should I have?
I really like writing stories (fictional) and am good at at it, but I'm also really good at math and chemistry. What job should I get once I'm older?

Hi Charlie,
A career as a fiction writer can be hard to achieve. You would have to love writing A LOT to go down that road. But being able to communicate well and make e.g. scientific and technical content relatable to audiences can be a great way to use a writing talent.
Nobody can tell you what job you SHOULD have. A career in science or technology is a safer bet and usually better paid than one in creative writing.
You could combine a love of science and a love of writing by going into science communication or even teaching or content creation. You could also take some classes in technical writing or marketing to use that talent in the corporate world. PR and social media management for science/tech corporations or professional organizations would be career options.

That’s a really great mindset to have, especially as a freshman. You do have time, and the fact that you’re already thinking intentionally about both math and writing puts you ahead in a healthy way. Taking AP English and multiple science classes next year shows you’re challenging yourself while keeping your options open.
Leaning toward a math-based career doesn’t mean you have to give up writing at all—being strong in both can open a lot of doors, from engineering and data science to research, economics, or even technical writing. Keep paying attention to what classes energize you the most and how you imagine your day-to-day life in the future.
You’re doing exactly what you should be doing right now: exploring, preparing, and staying curious. Keep going—you’re on a solid path.

What you try to mixed the 2 things you are good at?
Producing content about how to solve math problems, or producing content to help people to understand how importan chemistry is for all sort of industries, create little stories that people can relate.

first, I'll admit that I have no expertise in either of these areas. However, I have had a long work history and I feel that I am qualified speaking to identifying career possibilities and job satisfaction. The first lesson is to not be afraid to pivot in a direction that you originally didn't set out to take. I've known many people that felt locked into whatever they chose in college and couldn't see themselves doing anything else no matter how dissatisfied or burned out they became. Always be willing to consider trying something new.
Second, whatever you decide to do, you should decide if the work that gives you joy will allow you to live the way you desire. Do you want to be your own boss? Do you want to travel or be free to travel? Or do you desire to stay local and rely on an employer for your benefits?
You should also ask yourself in what style do you want to live. Without be worried about be called materialistic, you may not be happy working paycheck to paycheck or not being able to afford an international vacation or nicer home or nicer car. There is no shame is knowing how you want to live.
Next, I always advise to find an occupation that is recession resistant.

Whether writing for digital or in-print distribution, as a society, we cannot have enough books, computer-based training, or interactive games that make the topics of math or science approachable to children through high school. I would think that the creativity in topics, settings, and expression a good fiction writer possesses would lend itself well to making those topics fun, engaging, and effective no matter the student's learning style. As a society, we cannot have enough people well-versed in science and math.

Im a freshman in highschool so I feel like i have a lot more time to figure things out, but I am setting a path for both math and writing. Taking AP English classes and multiple science ones next year as a sophomore.
Ive really been thinking about how I want to live, im not sure yet but maybe im leaving towards a math career. Thanks!

1. Do you have interest to become a writer, journalist, media content creator, script writer, accountant, finance manager, engineer, banker, financial analyst, maths teacher, pharmacist,chemical engineer, etc. you can find more careers related to your strength and interest online.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counselor, your parents, etc
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges

I thought i wanted to be a writer ask my life but since my math teachers have always said I should go into something hard, involving math, I decided to think more about it. I do really like writing, its like my only skill lol. Im not a hands on person so definitely not engineer, im not sure about what career though involving math

Thank you so much!! I do really enjoy writing, but I know things involving math and science make more money so that's one of my motivating factors to getting a career in mathematics. Becoming a chemical engineer does sound interesting, though. I think I'll watch some videos on what they do
