What are some challenges in being a Registered Nurse?

Hello, I’m a Jr. High Student from Crane Middle School and being a Registered Nurse interests me. This Career interests me because I would like a career that involves being a Nurse. I also found this career interesting because it offers good benefits for those who are in the field. Another reason why I found this interesting is because it requires lots of teamwork, and communication skills which is an important aspect of doing things right. This relates to my life because I like to do activities as a team and communicate with others when it’s necessary. This also relates to me by having some patience when things get difficult. And my question is what are some important aspects of being a registered nurse. And how hard it can get when things are very difficult.

That's a tough question to answer, but it's great that you're interested in nursing! The field offers many opportunities, depending on your interests. If you like working with kids, you can choose pediatrics. If you prefer a fast-paced environment, the emergency room might be for you. The challenges you face can vary based on where you work. Generally, you might encounter coworkers who don't communicate well, which can happen in any job. Patients can be very sick, and sometimes there's little you can do. Financial constraints can limit how much help you can provide, and families can be difficult to manage because they are often scared and tired. You might feel the emotional weight of caring for your patients, which can lead to burnout. Long hours, including weekends and holidays, can also be challenging. However, nursing is a wonderful profession if you love helping others and working with a team of doctors, therapists, and social workers. There's no single answer to what makes nursing hard; it depends on what you find challenging and how you can choose a nursing path that minimizes those difficulties.

I have been a nurse for the past 4 almost 5 years. I graduated in 2021. I work in pediatric behavioral and mental health. And while I absolutely love what I do there are definitely some challenges. I will say the pay is somewhat lower than many people expect especially on social media. You make a livable wage but don’t expect to live lavish when you are new grad. The hours are long one shift can be 12-13 hours if you plan to work in hospital settings. It can be a lot on the body with all the standing, walking, and possibly running for emergent situations. Unfortunately the rhetoric of older nurses “eat their young” is still very true. They may not always welcome you with open arms and give you the support you need. That’s why it’s important to advocate for yourself and your patients when needed. I love what I do and will continue to do so but it’s is important to know it is not all sunshine and rainbows. I wish you the best of luck!!!
