Take the time to learn about the industry you want to join. Remember, performing music is different from working in the music industry; it's a whole new adventure. Keep writing and recording your music. Share it so everyone can enjoy it. Create a website where people can easily find you. And if you write your own music, make sure to copyright it before sharing it with the world!

Build a simple website or SoundCloud with pro recordings of your flute/saxophone pieces. Live videos. Please post consistently on Instagram/TikTok showing rehearsals or tips to attract followers and collaborators. This combo of real-world hustling and digital presence creates momentum fast. Network aggressively in College campuses and local places. Remember Words of mouth spreads faster.

Although my instrument is primarily guitar. I think my advice will still hold. First practice, practice, practice! I would encourage you to investigate other styles of music that you may not have considered. Jazz, classical, Pop, styles you may not have considered you may not have considered. Finally consider opportunities to perform that may be outside your experience. I recently spoke to a young trumpet player in New Mexico and he has been playing taps at funerals and other memorials. That’s it good luck and God bless mentality has given you.

Network! Right from the start of your first day as you make new friends, tell them what you do. it doesn't matter if they're musicians or not. What you're doing is getting the word out that you're here. What instruments you play, what genres of music excites you (the more the better). For a sax player, one of the most recognizable intros is the sax on Louie, Louie... (the Paul revere and the Raiders version). That always makes an impression no matter how old the song is. Another song for the flute might be Bouree by Jethro Tull. That's also a good one for the saxophone.
But like the first word says it all. Network! Word of mouth goes a long way.

Start sharing your performances online. Posting short clips on Instagram or YouTube can help you connect with more people. Show your progress, as many enjoy watching a musician's journey. Join competitions or festivals, even the small ones, to boost your résumé.

Open a TikTok page, do covers of your favorite song or top hits around the world play the saxophone similar to the music doesn’t have to be perfect just have to make it sounds similar or good for people to recognize the song. Offer your services towards weddings, 15, sweet 16’s proposals anything that people might be interested in hiring some background music for. Reach out to other musicians such as local bands or groups around and ask for tips and if they need a saxophone player. Social media is going to be your best source to grow you image. Good Luck.
