How can I be prepared for the current state of the animation industry?

As someone who wants to get their foot in the animation industry or the art industry in general, how can one do so during the age of companies preference to AI and the current job market as a whole?

Gabriele’s Answer

There's a big assumption that AI is used for every process in all companies now and in the future. This isn't true. AI can't replace the complex decision-making and endless revisions needed in creating films or TV shows.

The best advice is to find a mentor or shadow someone in a company to see how things really work. While you're there, check out different roles and see if you can picture yourself in one. If you like it, go for it.

Remember, sometimes it's just a small team or even you alone working on projects and making money.

Be careful about expensive colleges with low quality—they're everywhere.

Gabriele recommends the following next steps:

Biggest piece of advice is get yourself a career shadow so you can get into a company and truely see this for yourself. While you're there look at the different roles and try imagine yourself in one. If you like it go for it.
Everything else means small team, or even yourself as a single entity of export and revenue generation.
Be VERY wary of expensive low quality colleges, they are a dime a dozen.
Thank you comment icon Thanks for the advice. I'm still trying to complete my animation art degree but looking at places like r/animationcareer currently made it feel like that dream of working in that field would be impossible. Especially since I keep hearing stories of people with lots of experience in the field being forced to pivot. But hearing that feels like I can still do it if I put in the effort Christine
