Good inquiry
Immunology is an important aspect of career path as it tries to identify how our body responds to defence upon invasion by foreign agents.and thus it guides on how we can improve the defence either through physical barriers or chemicals activity that offers immune defence.
Immunology is key in our general health and a career path on immunology is vital and entails lots of scientific research and interventions that are really rewarding...ie in the development of vaccines, like lately when COVID 19 emerged there were a lot of pressure to develop COVID 19 vaccine to hald the spread of the disease.so immunology is one very important career path indeed

The human immune system is incredibly complex. Most physicians learn a fair amount about it, but it takes someone who dedicates themselves to study the immune system and how it changes through different environmental factors to help patients who have more than routine problems. There are many genetic conditions of impaired immunity and there are many acquired conditions of impaired immunity. On top of deficiencies, there are situations in which the immune system is overly active, and damages the host (one or more organs). Many immunologists do bench or clinical research, and some prefer to focus on clinical care. Many do both. Most immunologists work in academic medical centers, and are important teachers of medical students, residents, fellows, and other attending physicians.

Martha D.’s Answer
Hi, Anne, immunology research is very important because of its wide applicability. It is critical to finding new ways to address disease (such as when an existing approach loses effectiveness) and finding ways to address diseases newly found in humans. As global travel continues to increase, this is increasingly important.
Also, immunology is related to understanding autoimmune diseases and allergies. Both seem to have increased when viewed over the last 50 years or so. So the need is increasing and gaining urgency.
Finally, immunology can help understand other conditions better. For example, some studies have shown that regular lack of sleep can reduce immunity, leading to getting sick more easily. Such studies need expertise in immunology to be comprehensive.
The two links below provide more information and the field of immunology and how to get jobs in it.
I hope this helps and wish you good luck.

Great question, Anne, and in today's world highly relevant!
In today's world with all the synthetic substances exposed to the public, the study of immunology is even more relevant than ever! Many of today's health problems, from something as simple as eczema to cancer, all fall within the world of immunology. I am a board certified family physician and back in the day in my training they used to say all health issues could be traced back to infectious disease and it has become even clearer that infectious disease affects and effects our immune system as human beings: the field of immunology!
We need bright, young, curious, untainted and selfless minds to continue to grow and evolve the field of immunology to perpetuate and aid our human race!
