Leon’s Answer

The jobs available to a person with a Computer Science degree are endless and growing every day.

Below is a link to some of the jobs.

I am retired but during my 40 years of working in the IT departments of manufacturing, military, finance and consulting companies I held many positions. Some of the positions are not even on the list because these jobs are being executed with software. Don't worry about all Computer Science jobs being replaced with software. Software is replacing the repetitive jobs and Computer Science personnel are working on the new fun stuff.

Computer Science degree requires a high level of mathematics starting with calculus and science courses.

Leon recommends the following next steps:

Take as many mathematics courses as possible and get the best possible grades.

David’s Answer

There's almost an endless number of different jobs that you could pursue in the field of computer science with a degree. It really depends on what you are passionate about doing. If say you had a strong interest in computer security, you might focus on becoming really well versed in cryptographic systems or penetration testing. Maybe you have a minor in biology could put your skills to use in the bioinformatics field. Even if you stick to pure computer science you can aim to become a full stack developer and work toward a mastery of all the systems, languages, tools needed as part of development, deployment and monitoring of software applications. The more you practise, play with new technologies and build things the more you'll learn about what areas interest you, which really opens up a lot of great opportunities!

Remi’s Answer

Hi Corey,

You can do a lot of things with a Computer Degree.
To be honest I did a computer degree but I didn't really know what I wanted to do with this.
Here's some possible jobs you can pretend to but it will really depend of your personality.
- Software Developer: you know what it is, but think about the company you will work for. Do you want to work for a software company and create great apps, softwares, games, or even start your business during your free time? Do you want to work in a company and help them to develop their business or improve their processes creating new softwares?
- Consultant: here you'll act as a technical expert and you'll play a post-sales role. Your mission will consist of meeting your customers and implement / deploy the solution their acquired respecting the best practices of the software company. You'll have a take care of the customer context, I mean the architecture they have and the solutions they already have in place.
- Support: mainly helping people and solving issues your customers will have (could be very basic (T1) to very complex (T3) issues).
- Sales Engineer/Pre-Sales/System Engineer: Pre-Sales activity, you'll have to get very good technical and verbal skills. The role of an SE is to listen the customer pains, explain how the solution you sell will help them, run Proof of Concepts, be able to present the solution to a customer running demonstrations, be able to adapt your speech as you'll deal with technical guys as well as C-level/executive people, be able to present your solution during events (100+ attendees). This position requires a lot of travelling depending of the zone you'll cover.
- Technical Marketing Manager: Be aware of the roadmap, introduce new features to the sales/sales engineer/consultant teams internally and during events. You'll teach people how to demo, study the customer use cases and create marketing materials helping people to sell in your company.

There are many more positions but give me a shout if you need more information.
