Hi Samiyah, that's great that you want to be successful! 1) I'm assuming that you mean financially successful and successful in your career. However, don't forget that being "successful" means different things to different people (e.g. being successful for someone could mean having a spouse and children/family and living in their dream city and home, or being successful for someone could mean having an impact on people around you or leaving a legacy). Nonetheless, if you're speaking financial success, start investing now! Invest half of your income every month and don't let up. Invest first, spend after. Don't physically work for every $1 you make, let the market make you money while you're sitting home doing nothing or working on a side hustle. Your biggest advantage is time, start investing as early as possible. And, you don't need a lot of money to start. You can open up a Roth IRA or similar retirement account and put $20 dollars a month in there if that's all you can do. Continue to increase your investment contributions striving to invest at least 50% of your gross salary.

Yumi’s Answer

Hi Samiyah,

Good to hear that you have a goal of being successful in your future career. Next step would be to define what success means to you to make it a reality. Success means different things for different people. Also, in conjunction with thinking what the success means to you, think about what area / field of career interest you in order to achieve the success. When you are done with this step, you can think about more detail about how to get there

Fabian’s Answer

This is great!

You want to set both short term and long term goals for yourself that are specific, measurable, and achievable. These could include gaining a new skill (short term), or gaining a certain degree (long term), or even gaining a leadership position in your school (medium term).

Achieving success starts with defining it for yourself. Money, flexibility, pursuing passions, etc. You will feel success when you are doing something you love, are excelling in it, and then achieving what you consider success. Here's some interesting quotes on this topics...

"You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don't make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can't take their eyes off of you." - Maya Angelou

"The secret of joy in work is contained in one word—excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it." - Pearl S. Buck
"I think the foremost quality—there's no success without it—is really loving what you do. If you love it, you do it well, and there's no success if you don't do well what you're working at." - Malcolm Forbes
"To be successful, the first thing to do is fall in love with your work." - Mary Lauretta
"Work to become, not to acquire." - Elbert Hubbard
"The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." - Vince Lombardi
"If you love your work, if you enjoy it, you're already a success." - Jack Canfield
"Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work." - Aristotle

Good luck!
