Joseph’s Answer

First it does matter if a College has a good program because they more than likely have an internship which is important for getting the experience and job possibilities once you graduate. In addition many companies concentrate on on specific schools for hiring as they may have a good relation with there programs.

Jordan, most architectural programs will generally yield the same opportunities for an education and career opportunities. So, my recommendation is usually to choose the university that is the most economical. Graduating with large amounts of debt can put a lot of strain on one's early years in his or her career. One thing that will offer an architecture student the most opportunities for a successful job will be the selection of coursework. The more design and theory courses you are able to take will be to your advantage. And, consideration should be given to getting a masters degree. In most cases a masters degree is preferred by employers of high-end design firms. But, if a masters degree does not seem to be a viable option then I recommend that you take as many graduate design and theory courses as possible while an undergraduate. More importantly, it should be pointed out that university studies are only the beginning of one's professional studies. There will be ample opportunities to continue improving your education while employed. In fact, it is required to maintain one's license. There are many architects who become experts within a specific sub-sector of the architectural field with little or no university education in that sub-sector. Building systems are continually evolving, especially for building envelopes and the development of modular building construction. Learning how to design around new systems will require a lot of self-study and often there are classes for professional to learn about these new systems.
All the best,
Eric
