Which is better Management Information systems or Computer Information Systems?

I am pursuing IS but I realize there are two types. I am more likely to pursue MIS but still debating on the demand and circumstances of each course. #computer #tech #business # #information-technology #informationsystems

I think both paths have lots of available jobs and a bright future. Additionally, I don't think one path precludes the other in terms of the jobs available in the market. I think it does more towards the type of job you think you might be interested in. A MIS degree is generally going to be less "technical" in terms of classwork than the computer science degree. If for example you are interested going into software engineering, Cloud DevOps, etc., then I would definitely suggest a Computer Science degree as that will prepare you better for those jobs. If you would like a more well rounded exposure to IT in general and open to a broader set of jobs, I would recommend the MIS path. Again, I don't think you can make a bad choice here, more so around what engages and excites you.

Samantha’s Answer

Whether you go into CIS or MIS is completely dependent on what your personal preferences are and where your strengths lie. As other answers mentioned, MIS is more business focused and if your technical skills aren't as strong, then I would probably recommend MIS instead of CIS.

Please, note the following:-
1. They are both good.
(Computer Information
Systems and Management
Information Systems).
2. CIS focuses on the technical
side of the organization.
3. MIS puts emphasis on the
business side.
It is used for decision-making,
control, and analysis of
information in an organisation.
4. Analyse each one by one.
5. Best wishes to you.

Laurie’s Answer

I chose to go the MIS direction because I wanted to be working with the business side and technical side. If you enjoy playing a bridging role then MIS would be a good direction. There are many opportunities to translate visions, options, and details between the areas and build collaborative environments that build better systems.

Kalp’s Answer

This depends on you personal choice totally, as said by many above, both have different options. The MIS curriculum prepares students to think strategically and take on leadership roles. In contrast, CIS degrees are more strongly rooted in traditional computer science. They focus primarily on building students' technical skills. All the best on whatever you choose.
