Sandra’s Answer

How exciting that you are considering starting a business. While I have not started my own business I have worked with many new business owners and my best advice would be to find people who have started a similar business to what you are considering starting and ask them for an informational interview. People love to talk about their journeys and I bet they will say yes. Prep for that meeting by thinking through all the questions you have, starting with the basics first. Take good notes and follow up with whatever new questions that come up as a result of how they answer your questions. Make sure you thank them for their time and ask if you can come back to them with more questions, particularly if you found them to be helpful.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your question. I am glad that you are interested to be an entrepreneur.
To start a new business, have you thought about what industry you will do.
Below are a few suggestions for your to consider:
1. Think about the industry you have interest on or you have experience/capabilities/qualifications
2. Analyze the business model of the industry, e.g. Any entry barrier, substitute, competition status, etc.
3. Acquire the relevant knowledge on the industry, e.g. attend course, etc.
4. Work in the industry for some time to understand the business process and establish the network.
5. If possible, start the business online first to lower the startup cost
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Hello Boubacar,
Sandra has some good advice - talking to people who have gone through starting a business.
You can also look into what it takes to prepare a business plan.
Do you have a product or service? Have you tested the market to see if there's any traction?
How will you fund the business?
Sometimes your local chamber of commerce, community college, professional organization are other resources you can tap into.
Good luck!

1. Make sure you have a great idea with market demand. This is probably the most important step, so take your time and make sure you come up with something that people will want to buy. Many businesses fail because they have a cool idea/invention but there is no real market demand. On the other side of things, people often find a great "gap in the market" or market opportunity but build a bad product/idea.

2. Do your research. Once you have your idea, learn everything you can about the business before starting anything else. This will help you avoid common mistakes and set yourself up for success. Without solid research it will be hard to know which direction to move.

3. Set realistic goals and be prepared to work hard. Don't expect your business to take off overnight – it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to make it successful. But if you stay focused and keep pushing forward, you'll eventually see results. That said, don't waste your time trying to make an idea work that isn't working. Sometimes it isn't you, and it's just not the right time for your product, competitors have gained a monopoly, etc. It takes time to learn how to balance not giving up and when to quit.
