Hi Aleeyah,

In addition to some of the good suggestions, I also found it helpful to speak to others who are currently in a career in which I'm interested. I found this helpful as I could ask questions and better understand what the day-to-day work is like and also what the career progression could look like for that type of work. It also gave me an opportunity to ask if my skill set would fit with a specific career. If there were gaps, then it also helped me to understand what type of experience or training I would need to bridge the gap.

1 - most people won't be able to define what their career has been until they are 30 or so... no one really knows what the future will bring
2 - get a first job (either in junior high (mowing lawns? babysitting?), high school (work at the hardware store, on a farm, in a shop) - you will start making your own money, and learn how to work with people of all ages - pick the job based on what you don't mind, or even like doing.
3 - stay in the job for 4-5 months at least - you won't be good at it in the beginning, but your boss will help you, if you show that you are willing to work (no one gets paid for just sitting around - try to be useful, and your skills will grow. ask for help when you need it)
4 - there are 2 good short books : Strength Finders, and What Color Is My Parachute, designed for people who are looking to find out what they would be good at, and what kind of job they might want
5 - keep finding part time jobs until you graduate for high school or college - then get a full time job. It is easier to get a job with SOME job history.

Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about what you have interest like your hobbies, favorite subjects, etc. and identify related careers
E.g. If you are interested in Maths, would you like to be an accountant, engineer, banker, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc.
If you are interested in music, would you like to be a musician, singer, music producer, music composer, etc.
2. Find out more on these careers and identify what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working on these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 career you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in teh college
