Becky’s Answer

Success is based on how you define it, as well as the objectives and steps you've outlined to achieve it. Remember that your idea of success may evolve over time. Throughout my life, I've had five distinct careers, and I consider myself successful in each because I accomplished my goals in every field. In all but my first job after college, I was able to support myself independently; pay bills, buy a house, a car, go on vacations, etc.

I was fortunate to graduate from college with a bachelors degree without debt and work for a company that funded my master's degree. There will always be obstacles in any path we choose, but the key is to recognize them and set goals to overcome them. This might involve taking out a loan, obtaining a grant or scholarship, or pursuing an apprenticeship or job that provides the necessary education and training for your desired career, moving to another place or taking more time to complete your path.

Approach everything with a growth mindset. You might not be able to do it now or have the resources to do it now, but be open to figuring out what it takes to achieve your goals. Don't be afraid to change your objectives either. Our lives aren't set in stone, and we can shift directions while still finding success.

Charlotte’s Answer

Hey Stacy! You've got some awesome and crucial questions there. Success isn't just about gaining wealth; it's a personal journey with many different meanings. In fact, it's an ever-changing state of being. Throughout your career, you can experience success in various ways, rather than just aiming for a final goal. For instance, right after college, success might mean landing a job you love that lets you live independently in your city. As time goes on and your life goals shift, your idea of success might change too.

Now, about the money needed for a specific path, college can be pricey, but there are loads of fantastic nonprofits that offer free training and career guidance. So, don't worry – there are options out there to help you succeed!

Kashif’s Answer

If you love what you do consider this a game that gives you challenges every day and you need to find best solutions, that type of passion helped me in early my career, however, now my objective and perspective is focused on enabling others, creating solutions to support the teams and clients, and finding elements that help someone find better results to their problems. You need to continue to be in growth mindset, read lot of books, identify connections on how you are making difference is impacting the overall goal or helping someone. Building understanding of larger vision, objective will keep motivation and help you excel.

Hemant’s Answer

Embracing a growth mindset is crucial, as it allows you to view challenges as chances to learn and grow. Always aim to exceed expectations and find joy in your work.

Growing up in another country, education was affordable for me. Although landing my first job in the tech field was tough, I persisted and eventually found success. As a well-known saying goes, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

Melanie’s Answer

I am currently taking the Veterinary Assistant Course online. I am hoping to finish the course, do my externship and recieve my certificate September 11th, 2023. Trying to get a job and finish school has been really hard but I'm trying. Being a single mom rasing two teenage daughters hasn't been easy and I wish I had done a lot of things different. I'm hoping the future will be better.

Howard’s Answer

Dear Kim,

A key factor in achieving success for me was maintaining a positive outlook. Regardless of the challenges I faced, I constantly reminded myself to stay optimistic, even when I made mistakes. My journey began as a management trainee in the health insurance industry, and within a decade, I became a manager of Quality Assurance. I was passionate about my job and always eager to learn new things.

After 17 years at the company, I was let go along with 300 others, which seemed like a terrible event at the time. However, I stayed positive and pursued a teaching position at a local college. I simply walked in and spoke with the Dean of the School of Business, which led to me securing the job. My upbeat attitude and enthusiasm for teaching allowed me to remain in that role for the next 25 years. I found great joy in mentoring eager college students and even started a basketball program at the college, serving as head coach for those 25 years.

I believe that if you are passionate about your job, maintain a positive mindset, and show resilience, you will find success. With motivation, you'll eventually earn the income you deserve. I hope my story inspires you, and I wish you the very best in all your endeavors.

Warm regards,

Professor Christiansen

Kim’s Answer

Occupational therapy can be an extremely rewarding career to get into. You can make enough money to be financially independent, although different settings and locations can vary greatly regarding income. Figure out what school you want to attend. Smaller, more private schools can be more expensive and don’t give out many scholarships, but there will be less students in the classes and will provide more 1 on 1 attention. This may be good for those who want more individual attention. Larger schools offer more scholarships and grants, but have larger class sizes and are more difficult to get into the OT program. Either way you go, you need to have your “why” answered. OT is a giving profession that requires compassion for others and you must have an attitude of kindness, empathy and wanting to help others get better after an accident, illness, surgery etc. if you have a giving heart, it will help you stay motivated.

John’s Answer

This is a really good question. It is always important to remember that no matter what path you take or goal you set for yourself you always have challenges. Along your journey you will experience set backs, failures, and diversions that will challenge you. It is important to understand this before you start. Expect those things and don't let them deter you. Those situations are always opportunities to learn from. They will help mold you and give the knowledge, expertise, and most importantly confidence you need to be successful.

ASHWIN’s Answer

Hello Stacy, a great questions
The road to success is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work, determination, accepting rejection and disappointment, continuing you push your self, understanding your strengths and weaknesses, asking for help/mentoring/coaching/ being able to help others.

Never take anything for granted. Always take the time to study and improve your skillset, don't be afraid to take risks especially when you are young,

Focus on being the best you can be to become successful and the money will follow. Define what is success to you.

Best wishes
