Angel’s Answer

Hello!

I highly encourage you to explore Javascript. Once you grasp the fundamentals, you can dive into some popular Javascript frameworks such as:
- ReactJS
- AngularJS

Additionally, it's essential to familiarize yourself with CSS and HTML5.

Aside from technical abilities, for entry-level or in-house positions, managers often assess valuable soft skills, including:
- Meticulousness
- Problem-solving capabilities
- Initiative
- Resilience in the face of challenges.

Best wishes!
Thank you comment icon Thank you guys so much for your responses! I just started learning CSS and HTML, and then I will move on to JavaScript to hopefully be prepared for React. Again thank you I really appreciate it!! Sebastien

Dwight’s Answer

I am consulting Civil Engineer and Surveyor. I have personally designed over 250 subdivisions. I ran my own firm, so I needed Accounting, Management skills in addition to my Civil Engineering Classes to run a firm and know how to operate it effectively. As a developer you need to be able to give complete instructions to a Civil Engineer and Architect, so you get the quality project with optimum yield. You need to be able to read a zoning code and know it better than the governmental staff. That way you control the final outcome of a project. Look for ways to enhance your project without allowing staff to dictate you final design. Do you homework and be able to present a project to the land owners adjacent to your project so you give them the feeling you did consider the impact on them before the project was presented. Then you need to be a skilled speaker before the Zoning Board and mayor and council or Board of Supervisors. Be prepared to answer question and not fumble around when giving an answer. When you pass this stage, you need to know how to bid a project and work with contractors. Learn to be able to negotiate. Most of all be on top of all the steps to a development from purchasing land, planning a project, getting financing, and allow for some hick ups along the way in money and time.

Dwight recommends the following next steps:

get some accounting and personnel managment classes
Learn how to finance a project
Know the Zoning Code inside and out
Learn some CAD so you can make you own preliminary layouts

Sebastien,

Great question. From a strictly technical skills point of view I would recommend adding modern front-end languages to your skill set such as REACT or Angular. Additionally, try to learn more about responsive UI design and concepts.
