Hey Addison,

I am going to assume that you meant scholarships for college and I am happy to help. I recently went through the college admissions process and I earned scholarships to many of the schools that I applied to, including the one I picked. Here were some things that worked for me.
1. Have your forms filled out. The FAFSA is by far the most important pertaining to scholarships. You want to make sure that you're able to get this filled out with your parents/guardians. This will allow the schools you're applying to gauge the amount they can grant you in need-based aid.
2. Understand the colleges that you're applying to. I was able to categorize the colleges I was interested into three categories. 1. Safety, 2. Target, and 3. Reach. I would suggest that you apply to a good amount of each college. The great thing about college admissions is that there are so many across the country and many that will be happy to have you join and offer you merit-based aid. Remember to do a ton of research and if you're able go see the schools and talk to the folks that work in admissions. Get the list of schools and make sure that those are the ones you want to go to. It is common that high schools allow for students to take days off to look at schools and many schools keep their admissions offices open during the summer. Also, be sure to attend virtual sessions too, they were helpful. The safety and target schools will likely be the schools who offer you merit-based aid.
3. Do research on outside scholarships that you may be able to earn. There are also many organizations who have applications to earn scholarships. Yes, college is expensive. If you apply to multiple scholarships though and get them, the small amounts will quickly add up and you can have a ton of money.
4. Lastly, apply to the scholarships that the school offers. I got into a few schools and applied to schools that offered me multiple scholarships and programs to apply to. It is more common now that when you apply you're considered for all of the merit-based aid the school has to offer, but some programs and scholarships are more tailored to the profile of the student (major, background, race, etc). Make sure that you keep your eyes open for that.
Other than that, that is really all the advice I can offer you. I hope that this helped and that you're able to land some scholarships! Happy trails!

To apply for a scholarship, start by researching scholarships that match your interests and eligibility. Gather the necessary documents like transcripts, recommendation letters, and essays. Create a scholarship calendar to stay organized with deadlines. Write a well-crafted personal statement or essay tailored to each scholarship's requirements. Request letters of recommendation from trustworthy sources. Complete each application accurately, proofread carefully, and submit on time. Keep records of the scholarships you apply for and be prepared for potential interviews or additional requirements as a finalist. If awarded a scholarship, send a thank-you letter to the provider. Staying informed and persistent in your search can help secure financial support for your education.
