I started my first business for about $100. It was a catering company and I thought I knew what I was doing, but I learned a lot. If you have something you believe in, getting a website set-up is easy. I’d focus on improving your networking skills while aiming to understand how to sell the product. I used the money for my first event deposit to buy pans and raw ingredients. You can get going with little resources and a fair amount of enthusiasm.

In high school, your guidance counselor may have advice and access to aptitude tests. Your family and friends may have insights as well. Also, if you are in high school, you may want to apply to colleges that have entrepreneur certificates or tracks of study. In college, a business major will generally give you some experience in various aspects, such as finance and management. Also, your college should have a career center with resources to help you decide and pursue opportunities. Also, some colleges have active alumni networks for shadowing and internship opportunities.
As a small business owner, you initially do all kinds of roles - production, customer relations, finance, marketing, sales, human resources, procurement, etc. Since you will naturally be stronger in some roles than others, try to have some advisors in your weaker areas from early on. They are not going to be paid initially, but they will help you start on a better footing.
