Astrophysics is a subdiscipline of physics at the graduate school level. Therefore, an undergraduate degree in physics is the minimal requirement to get into the field of astrophysics. Also, there are not too many physics departments in the country that offer this degree program.
If you are interested in astrophysics, you should start your academic preparation early on in high school. Mathematics is the language of science. You should take as many math courses as possible, from Algebra I, Algebra II, to preferably, AP Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC. An AP Physics course would also be a good idea. These should be your “curricular” activities that would prepare you for a challenging and rigorous physics program in college.
After completion of an undergraduate degree in physics, you are in a good position to find a suitable graduate school to continue your study in astrophysics.
As far as “extracurricular” activities are concerned, physics club or science club would cultivate your interest in science in general.
