Cecile’s Answer

Hi Hanna, as Elaine suggested, going through a systematic education program will help you a lot to know the basics and get to know some people in the flipping house field already

At the same time, I would suggest to attend volunteering programs like building houses with Habitat for Humanity for under-served communities. It will open your eyes to see different ways of helping people. It will also give you hands-on experience of building/designing a house. Life and experience is a wonderful teacher, no less than official training/education programs.

Hope this helps

Elaine’s Answer

Flipping houses if definitely fun. You first need to go to college that has a strong interior design program - CIDA accreditation. Since you want to be a designer, you should be specialist in design. During college years, you will gain not only design knowledge but also building a business. For your internship, you should find a design firm that runs flipping houses or go find a developer company as this is really from the ground up. ,

Once you graduate and got some experiences, you can follow the below steps and start your company.

  1. Create a House Flipping Business Plan.
  2. Find the Right Professionals.
  3. Set up Business Operations.
  4. Find Financing Sources.
  5. Identify the Right Properties to Fix and Flip.
  6. Buy, Rehab, Market & Sell Properties.
  7. Bottom Line: Starting Your Own House Flipping Business.

Robert’s Answer

Good responses above. There is alot to real-estate and rehab/flipping houses. Get with a mentor or someone you can possibly work with who is already doing it successfully. you may even be able to partner with them if they are busy and successful or break off once you have gained knowledge. Without going into too much about all the areas you need to learn (and possibly others will continue to jump in on this), your expenses are so key. Commercials that show how easy it is and always make money never give you the true idea of costs to rehab, repair and plan for expensive contingencies. Being knowledgeable in the various trades will allow you co complete alot of the work on your own of be able to supervise contractors you bring in as well as evaluate their bids.
