Hello, Brooklynn !

It is awesome that you have a career interest in the ninth grade. You will need much education and close guidance to prepare you for a career in Modeling for the future. Since you are in a suburb of Detroit, I have left a link below for your parent to call from a list of modeling schools and ask information about their programs. You should begin now with modeling school so you can get a real idea of what modeling is. The school may even offer some opportunity for you to get experience, too. At 14, you will need 100% of your parent(s) oversight and support in order to take the steps forward learning how to be a model. Models make good money and are expected to know exactly what to do on a project. It is a process, not an overnight venture.

Before you go to modeling school, read up on what modeling is, how versatile it is and all the types of modeling you will be expected to do. You should do your research first and my advice is to never let it interfere with your high school studies. From the list below of modeling schools, have your parent call and ask if you could both audit a class because you are screening schools. You will not be "scouted" or "discovered". When you are ready to proceed with a professional modeling career, obtained a lot of experience and a portfolio, then you will seek representation from a Modeling Agent. Once you obtain representation, the agent will send you out for projects that you will have to interview for and wait for a callback.

For now, you can get together with like-minded friends and see if you can hold fashion shows at any local venues or at your school. You will need a lot of training as well as a lot of education about the modeling industry. Many disappointments come when inexperienced models who didn't learn about the business are turned down time and time again. But if that happens, the agents are usually helpful in giving you a reason why you may not be ready.

Most online Modeling instruction does have a fee attached. If you want to check them out you can do an internet search for them. Just to get an idea, online instruction wouldn't be bad, but you will have to do in-person training for this career. I provided a link below for a Live About list of magazines you should subscribe to. The article also has some great information about Modeling Terms and Phrases, the 4 Modeling Capitols of the World, Hobbies that will help your Modeling Career and more.

I hope this is helpful to get you started - it's a process and you should enjoy each step along the way. Don't give up ! I wish you all the best !

Dear Brooklyn,
It is important to handle this delicate subject with care and consideration for the potential risks involved in the industry.

First and foremost, I would recommend doing extensive research on the modeling industry, including the different types of modeling, reputable agencies, and common scams to be aware of. It is crucial to be well-informed before making any decisions or commitments.

When it comes to approaching modeling scouts and agencies, it is important to be cautious. Some agencies may ask for money upfront for things like photoshoots or portfolio development. It is important to remember the principle of "never pay to play" and be wary of any agency that asks for payment before they have invested in you as a model.

Building a strong portfolio is essential for any aspiring model. Look for opportunities to collaborate with photographers on a Time for Time (TFT) basis, where both parties benefit from the photoshoot. Additionally, consider reaching out to local designers in your area who may be looking for models to showcase their designs.

As a 14-year-old, it is crucial to always consult with your parents or guardians before making any decisions related to modeling. The fashion industry can be exciting, but it is also important to be aware of potential risks and to have a support system in place.

In conclusion, I wish you the best of luck in your modeling career. Remember to stay informed, be cautious, and always prioritize your safety and well-being. If you have any further questions or need additional guidance, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,
Jennifer
