About

I am a EMT who provides emergency onsite medical care and transportation for critically injured or ill individuals who require immediate medical assistance. Making sure every second counts, EMTs perform this basic and critical medical care out of an ambulance, using the tools and resources available within it.

Kimberly’s Career Stories

How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?

I decided to become a EMT because I have a need to help others in need. Being an Emergency Medical Technician is who I am not just what I do.

In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?

EMTs are health care professionals who work on ambulances to respond to 911 calls. Emergency calls can range from life threatening issues, such as cardiac arrests or gun shot wounds, to minor complaints, such as sore throats or sprained ankles.

When you were a student, did you do anything outside of school to build skills or get knowledge that has helped your career?

I volunteered at my local rescue squad to help build skills and gain knowledge while in school.

What is it like when your job gets tough?

Many calls are mundane and ‘boring’, in layman’s terms, but sometimes, I go on a call that makes me want to legitimately leave the service. I refuse to go over the details of my calls here, but in the end, I muster the strength to keep on going because I just love my job. How I cope with stress is to lead a productive and enjoying lifestyle. I do my hobbies that I normally do, and for me, it’s important that I have more that one or two hobbies, that way if I get bored of one or both of them, I can simply move on to another hobby. When things get really difficult it is important to talk about the incident/difficulty to trusted colleagues and friends, exercise, eat wisely and if necessary seek professional assistance.
