I recently graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and now work as an Industrial Engineer at UPS. During college, I worked at the Career Center, where I helped students with resumes, cover letters, and interview prep, and I’d love to continue supporting students in that way as a professional.

When you were a student, did you do anything outside of school to build skills or get knowledge that has helped your career?
As a student, I worked part-time at the Career Center, where I built professional and communication skills by helping other students with their career development. I also joined student organizations related to my major, such as the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Through SHPE, I attended the National Conference, where I not only networked with other engineers but also received an offer for my current role at their career fair. I gained leadership experience as fundraising chair and through serving on committees, which taught me how to work effectively on teams. For fun, I joined the ultimate frisbee club, which gave me a chance to meet people outside of engineering and provided a fun way to de-stress from the heavy workload.
