Lateefah’s Career Stories
When you were a student, did you do anything outside of school to build skills or get knowledge that has helped your career?
By outside of school, I would assume that means other than academics. When I was in college, I had a job as an administrative assistant and I was also an executive of a professional association on campus. Being a member and executive of the professional organization was very helpful in my career decision as it exposed me to professionals in the career path that I ended up choosing. It also helped me develop my interpersonal, leadership, and project management skills, all of which have contributed greatly to my career success. Working as an administrative assistant helped develop my problem solving, multi-tasking, and organization skills, which have also been very beneficial. I think it is crucial in today's work to develop skills other than academics. It is basically an expectation of every employer.
