Hey Roxanne, congratulations on being accepted into CSUSM's ABSN program! That's huge! To strengthen your application for a job at UCSD, there are a few things you can focus on:
Firstly, UCSD is known for its high standards, so getting hands-on experience during your nursing program is key. If you can, try to secure clinical placements or externships at UCSD or similar top-tier facilities. Networking with professionals there will also give you an inside edge.
Secondly build connections, Make sure to network with UCSD nurses and healthcare staff, especially during clinical rotations. Building a strong professional relationship with them could help you when you're ready to apply for jobs.
Third....UCSD looks for nurses with specialized skills. Look into certifications that align with your area of interest, like ICU, oncology, or ER nursing. Advanced certifications will make your resume stand out.
Next, if you have the time, volunteering at UCSD or related organizations will demonstrate your commitment to the healthcare community and could help build a strong foundation for your future application.
Also UCSD is a research-driven institution. If you can, get involved in research during your nursing school. It doesn’t have to be directly related to your specialty, but being familiar with research will show your dedication to ongoing learning.
lastly, When applying, make sure your resume and cover letter are tailored to UCSD’s mission and values. Highlight any experience, skills, and values that align with their healthcare approach.
Wishing you the best of luck! If you have any questions ahead feel free to reach out, hope this helps.

Congrats on your acceptance into an accelerated BSN program, if UCSD is your place that you want to work once you graduate, as was mentioned try and network, and if you are able to secure a clinical rotation at UCSD even better! While trying to get a nursing speciality certification might be difficult without experience post-licensure (as many speciality certifications require you to be working in a clinical area for a certain number of hours over a period of time). While being in an accelerated program it might be difficult to be working if you are able to look at part-time opportunities working there perhaps as a technician while you are in nursing school, I have known some nurses who worked in a hospital as a tech for example in the emergency department while in school, and then were able to get hired on as a nurse once they graduated and passed their licensure exam. Best of luck to you!
