what to do for business in collage?

What is the best business degree, and why should you get it? I don't necessarily mean most money, but like best for the long term, as I'm going into college and would like to know. #Spring25

Thomas’s Answer

A business degree is a great step in a career. With that said, someone once told me "accounting is the language of business." The accounting field is always in a high demand and there are plenty of career paths, from working at a public accounting firm, working in accounting at a company, or government positions. The accounting profession normally hires a lot of interns, so it is a great opportunity to get a job while still in college to determine whether it is something that you could see doing for an entire career. Best of luck!

Accounting is probably the safest major. Not only does every business need accountants, but its also recession proof and can lead to a ton of different degrees. Based on the turnover in the industry, there is always a high demand for accountants. Thus, making it one of the safer majors to get a job out of college. It also pays relatively well, is a very safe career in terms of job security, and offers a ton of high paying internships and externships for when your in college. You can make over 30$ an hour plus overtime doing an accounting internship, which will send you back to senior year with a ton of money saved up. I highly recommend accounting. Finance is also a great major and is high paying with many opportunities.

Hi Lucas,

The best to start out with is a Business Administration degree. To explain, the classes are going to cover range of topics and will help you decide what you would like to focus on if you pursue a masters. Also, there is a high level of accounting/math in a Business Administration degree (so you can use that as your advantage!) I hope this helps! Take care!

Holly’s Answer

Hi Lucas,

I would say either accounting or business administration. With business administration, you are able to take a range of classes to explore all different areas of business. I started as a business admin major and I was able to learn a lot from these classes. With accounting, there are a lot of different areas you can explore. You can join a public firm or work for a private company. You can work towards becoming a manager or look into bookkeeping. You can work as an A/P or an A/R clerk and work your way up. I have found there are a lot of different opportunities that come with being an accounting major. Best of luck!

Hi Lucas!

It's fantastic that you're thinking about your future! Business is an amazing field that keeps everything moving. An MBA, or Master of Business Administration, is one of the most respected degrees you can pursue. While it takes some time to earn, it opens doors to connect with like-minded people and build essential skills. Having an MBA is prestigious, and it often leads to better job opportunities and higher earnings. I truly believe it will give you a big edge when applying for jobs.

Keep moving forward!
