How can I become a dental hygienist in Texas?
I recently moved to the U.S. and I’m living in Houston, Texas. I’m interested in becoming a dental hygienist, but I’m not sure where to start. I’d like to know what steps I should take, such as which programs to apply to, what prerequisites are required, and if there are any licensing exams. I’d also appreciate advice about affordable schools or community colleges in Texas.

To become a licensed Dental Hygienist in Texas, you need to graduate from a CODA-accredited program in dental hygiene. You then need to pass the exam of the American Dental Association and pass a clinical examination administered by a regional examination board.

Graduate from an accredited college, like Houston Community College, with prerequisites: English, math, biology, and chemistry. Apply during or after the program for the National Board Hygiene Program, and the regional clinical program required for licensure, and pass the exam. The next step is to apply for the Texas hygienist license.
