What Creative Jobs are the Most Successful?

I am a 13 year old girl at crane middle school as a 8th grader, I’ve always loved acting but recently I’ve been told I don’t have the potential. I’ve been singing since I was a toddler, I have zero professional training in singing but I can sing very high notes, not opera level but high enough that most adults struggle with. I’m also able to learn dances that K-pop idols sing and dance within an hour. I haven’t been trained in dancing either. My only problem with that area is that I can’t write lyrics, I’ve always had trouble. So right now I’m just wondering if any of those jobs I just mentioned would fit me?

There are many careers in performing arts: actor, singer, dancer, musician, musical artist, etc. Each requires different skills. You can find out more and identify what you have interest 2. Attend the training classes of relevant areas 3. Participate casting to explore and performing opportunities 4. Explore the entry criteria of performing arts academy. Work hard to meet the criteria Hope this helps! Good Luck! May Almighty God bless you! Rebecca Tang

Hey Audrey,

First… I just want to say — the things you can do without formal training? That’s not nothing… that’s a gift. And gifts are rare, but here’s the thing — in today’s world, it’s not just the talented who make it… it’s the ones who stay gritted through all odds. I see it every day — people with my talent, but twice my consistency. And they win.

The beauty isn’t just the performance — it’s the work you put in to level up the performance… in this case, that’s you. So don’t give up. Opportunities always come — but not everyone is ready when they do… and that doesn’t have to be you too.

Also — don’t limit yourself. There are thousands of creative professions out there! Acting, dancing, singing — yes — but also writing, designing, creating in ways that could even upgrade your original passion. Every craft you try adds depth to your art and to yourself.

Look life in the eye… and dare to become what you wish to be. Because if you don’t dare it… it will dare you.

Hi, Audrey !

There are no statistics to know what creative jobs are the most successful. It is more like an individual thing. Each person's acting career goes differently and it has a lot to do with the path you take for training, education and experience. Location can be a factor, too.

If you really want to pursue acting and utilize dancing and singing for a career, this is very possible regardless of someone saying you don't have potential. You certainly can do it. The person who told you that is viewing you at age 13 and has no idea what path you'll take. It's great to begin at 13, training, practicing and getting experience at school for all the shows they do. My advice is to not listen to anyone who deters your career dreams, rather prove them wrong and one day, you will. You wouldn't believe the amount of actual famous actresses who were once told that they would never become an actress.

I know this is for next Summer, however, keep this information so that you can apply to the The Yuma Community Theatre's "Summer Theater Arts for Growth & Education (S.T.A.G.E.)" program for youth and teens. This would be awesome for you next summer. There is also a program through The Yuma Art Center & Historic Yuma Theatre called "Infinite Imagination Youth Theatre Program" for 2026. Information for this one is not online, so call or have your parent take you there to ask about it. The best way to feel positive about acting is to stop thinking about it and take active steps doing it. If you're not finding much support at your school at this time, venture out into the community.

Expand your circle of friends by finding students that also love acting, singing and dancing and do videos or start a community based children's theatre troupe. Try to find kids that also like to write plays and take on the role of director. You can start your own opportunities where you are. Continue this all throughout junior high and high school.

Meet with your school counselor or a teacher and ask how you can form an after school networking/support group for students in the performing arts. You can use this group to come up with ideas for school or community performances, all through middle, junior high and high school.

Invest in or borrow from the Library, the book, "Acting for Young Actors: The Ultimate Teen Guide" by Mary Lou Belli and Dinah Lenney. You're going to need a theoretical understanding of acting to project your acting ability. It's not "pretending" and it's not mimicking, there's a technique to it that once you learn, you will have the deeper understanding as a base for your talent. Other essential reading not to be missed are: " Meisner for Teens: A Life of True Acting" by Larry Silverberg, "The Best Scenes for Kids Ages 7–15" put together by Lawrence Harbison which has scenes for your age range for you to study and perform. At the SAG/AFTRA website, you can get the "Young Performers Handbook" which will be very helpful.

Yes, my advice will keep you busy but that's really the way you'll get "into it".

Seriously consider college for a Bachelors Degree in Theatre with an emphasis on Acting. You'll obtain advanced and more disciplined training this way and be around it every day. Acting will begin to feel real to you if you do it this way. Your academic path will teach you many things and will also give you insight as to how to start your professional career.

Realize that you are very capable of following your chosen career and that you will once in a while hear negative opinions, but, you know, that happens with any career, so you may as well stick with your choice and make it real for yourself. You can do it and do not let anything stand in your way.

I hope this helps. During your journey, feel free to return here to ask more questions ! I am happy to help !
