Do you know of any website(s) where I can find scholarships in California?

I want to have as much information as possible and have access to scholarships, but I don't know which ones I can truly trust, and the ones I've seen have deadlines too soon and I don't have time to apply or I'm not eligible.

Individual colleges have entities called College Foundations which connect many of their scholarships to specific subjects, activities, majors, genders, and other student classifications.

You might find scholarships for students who are first generation college students (neither parent has a college degree), students who are focusing their major on teaching, engineering or radiology, or students who might be Hispanic in ethnicity.

Most of the time potential applicants can find nearly anything that fits into a classification or subject that defines them or their future goals.

All colleges and universities have foundations that offer scholarships, which can be applied for by the students in attendance. I would log into the college or university website and research the ones which apply to you and your particular interests, majors, or life goals.

Hello, Nikol !

It sounds as though you've done your due diligence in your scholarship search and I commend you on that because it is indeed a lot of work. I would be happy to help, but not knowing your criteria that would qualify you, I hope to find ones that you haven't cancelled out due to not qualifying.

Since your plan is to be a Nursing Student at college, you may qualify for some Nursing Scholarships. As far as "trusting", you have nothing to lose by applying because the real scholarships do not ask for a fee with the application. Students do not receive every scholarship they apply for, it is a matter of applying and waiting to hear back as to whether or not you were chosen for the scholarship.

Many scholarships are available through nursing schools and professional associations which I am not sure if you've tried yet. If not, you can try The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association. Johnson and Johnson offers scholarships and grants, too. Some of these are Brave of Heart Nursing Scholarship, Nurse Association Scholarship, and the CCI Nursing Scholarship. A link to their webpage for these is below. The donor does not have to be in California.

The ones that California offers are The Bachelor of Science Nursing Scholarship Program, the California Registered Nurse Education Scholarship and requires a two-year commitment to practice in a medically underserved area of California. There are The Deloras Jones RN Scholarship, The California Nurses Association / NNOC Alameda County Scholarship Fund, The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, and if you are in San Francisco there are the Susan T. Margolis Scholarship and The SF Council of Women’s Clubs Scholarships.

Also try The the Santander Open Scholarship, The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship, The Dell Scholars program, and The National Merit Scholarship Program. Put the names of the scholarships in a search engine to find the details about them.

When asking for assistance for scholarships and grants, definitely provide the location or college you plan to study at and if you are seeking merit or non-merit based, ethnic or nationality based scholarships. There are a wide variety of scholarships and it does, as you've discovered, take a lot of time to read each scholarship or grant requirements. Go to the college you plan to attend, either in person or their website to see what scholarships they offer.

All scholarship and grant applications do have a start date and a deadline. Find the ones you qualify for and write the dates down so you can apply next time. Keep notes on what you find. It is a lot of work that really needs to be done first hand, especially if people do not know your category or criteria, so it will be well worth it for you to continue your search. You should also find out if you will qualify for Federal Student Financial Aid.

I hope that this helps, but definitely return if you need more assistance and mention exactly what kind of scholarships you can qualify for. You should also check with your local Chamber of Commerce as they may know some health care places that offer nursing students scholarships locally. I wish you all the best !
