Hi Alan,
First of all, as you grow up, pay attention to what you are good at and what you are interested in. Everybody is different. There is no point in just picking a profession if you don't have some level of passion and interest for it. So, what subjects are you good at in school? Which ones do you find interesting? Which ones are just a snooze fest for you?
Are their any things outside of school that you are interested in, maybe a hobby or maybe just a job you wish you could do? Maybe you have e.g. always been interested in space flight or how the human body works. Follow those ideas and dreams and find out what kind of jobs would lead you into that environment.
What values would you like to hold up, e.g. would you be happy to work e.g. for a weapons manufacturer, an oil company or a company that is known to exploit their workers? Or would you want your work and life to make a positive difference in the world? If so, you might want to look for a job where you can use your talents like that.
What kind of work environment do you like? Some people like to work with their hands. Others prefer to sit at a desk. Some people want to be outside and in nature. Others would rather sit in an airconditioned place. Do you enjoy physical activity or would you rather sit in front of a screen?
Will you be looking for employment or do you want to build and own a business? Some jobs lend themselves more to entrepreneurship than others. In that case you need to make a plan, i.e. find out what kind of business you plan to have and what skills you need to acquire to be successful. What about working hours? Do you like to work a lot or are you looking for a good work-life balance?
Pay attention to location too. There are some jobs that are so common you can pretty much find employment anywhere, e.g. as a nurse. But in some professions you pretty much move to where the job is, e.g. professors.
When you have identified some things you are good at and you find interesting, you can start to explore those career paths. What education would you need? Are there certifications that you need to get? How long would you have to go to school? How much would it cost?
Consider which jobs are more stable than others and more likely to still exist by the time you get out of college. Last but not least, what kind of salary can you hope for in those jobs? It's not the only important consideration, but you want to be able to make a living too.
I hope this helps! All the best to you!

Hi Alan. One of the factors to consider is your interests and strengths. A career should match what you enjoy doing and what you are naturally good at. For example, if you love working with numbers and solving problems, you might enjoy a career in accounting, engineering, or data analysis. If you enjoy helping people, you could consider careers in healthcare, teaching, or social work. When your career aligns with your passions and skills, you are more likely to stay motivated and find long-term satisfaction in your work.
Another important factor is the job market and future demand. The world is changing quickly, and technology is creating new types of jobs while making some older ones disappear. It is wise to research which careers are expected to grow in the future. For instance, jobs in technology, renewable energy, healthcare, and artificial intelligence are likely to be in high demand. Choosing a career with good job prospects can make it easier to find employment and provide job security.
Education and training requirements are also crucial to consider. Some careers require university degrees, professional licenses, or years of training, while others can be started with short courses or apprenticeships. Before deciding on a career, you should understand how much time, effort, and money it will take to qualify for that job. This helps you plan your education wisely.
In addition, think about work–life balance and lifestyle. Some jobs may require long hours, frequent travel, or high levels of stress, while others may offer flexible schedules and more free time. It is important to choose a career that matches the kind of life you want to live.
Wishing you all the best.

Hi Alan! Definately find something you enjoy doing - we spend a lot of time at work, so it's got to be something you're happy spending your time on. There's nothing wrong with not knowing what you want to be... I'm 45 years old and I still don't know 'what I want to be when I grow up' :)
Your location and travel time to/from your work location will count for a lot as well so definately do your research.
Good luck!

Hello,
My advice is to keep things simple as you start exploring career paths.
Think about what you enjoy doing — maybe it’s building things (engineering), solving problems (science), connecting with people (sales or marketing), or helping others learn (teaching). The more you understand what excites you, the easier it is to find a direction that feels right.
Take some time to explore what’s out there — browse LinkedIn, follow business and tech news, and see what kinds of roles catch your eye.
Also, keep in mind that AI is changing nearly every field. Learning how to use AI tools can make you much more effective, no matter what path you choose.
Hope this helps you get started!
