Hi Sarah. Chemistry can be tough, but with the right study habits, you can tackle it and build a strong foundation for your future career. First, you need to stay organized. College courses, especially chemistry, cover a lot of material, and staying organized will help you keep track of everything. You may use a planner or digital calendar to note important dates, like assignments and exams. Keep your notes organized by topic, so when you need to review, it's easy to find everything.

Another tip is to actively engage with the material. Simply reading textbooks or listening to lectures might not be enough to fully understand chemistry concepts. Take clear, detailed notes during class, and then review them afterward. Try rewriting the notes in your own words to help reinforce what you learned.

Since chemistry involves solving problems, practice is key. The more you practice, the more confident you'll become. Work through practice problems in your textbook or online. If you're stuck on a problem, try breaking it down into smaller parts or ask for help. You can reach out to your professor, a classmate, or use online resources for extra practice.

It can also be helpful to study with others. You can find a group of classmates to study with. You can quiz each other, discuss difficult topics, and learn from each other. Sometimes, explaining something to someone else can help you understand it better.

Also, make sure you use all the resources available. Colleges often offer tutoring services, study guides, and extra materials online. If you need help with a particular topic, don't hesitate to ask for assistance. You can also find great online resources, like YouTube, which have videos that explain chemistry concepts in a clear and simple way.

Lots of great tips already listed. I'll add one that was very helpful for me, which was to start assignments early. I found that if I started my assignments the day they were assigned or within a day or two it really took the pressure off, allowing me the time to think through difficult content and ask for help if needed. It's always tempting to procrastinate, but if you are struggling with content and the work is due the next day, you are much more likely to just do the minimum to complete the assignment rather than really taking the time to understand the material.

Hey Sarah,

It is great to hear that you are looking to pursue a career in forensic science and are looking for the best way to study for your upcoming college courses. There are many different methods of studying and it is important to find what works best for you in order to maintain good grades. Here are some of my realizations and suggestions from increasing study habits.

Most of learning is memorization and the best way to create that is through repetition. Doing things and repeating things over and over can help you remember what ever you might be studying. One way you can try this is with note cards. Things like vocabulary, topics, dates, and much more can be use with note cards or sticky notes. Write the main word on front/plain side, and write the definition or information on the back. Start off by reading them over and over. Eventually, start to test your self to try to remember them. Start with just a few and not the whole stack. Add more slowly as you go. The goal is to be able to memorize them all, no matter the order. You can also try writing the definitions over and over again in a notebook. Fill up pages and this will be another way for your brain to memorize not only be seeing but also writing it out. You can also try to have people test you, or find time to study with some classmates.

Best of luck on your journey!
