Hey Emily,

What an interesting question! While I don't work in this particular field, I did some research and hopefully, it helps.

There are quiet a few degrees that would cover what you want to do including:
- Kinesiology: this is a good route if you're more interested in how bodies move and could lead to careers as a sports scientist or rehab technologist.
- Biomedical Engineering: this is more about designing technologies to prevent injuries
- Sports Medicine or Physical Therapy: the focus here is understanding injuries and rehabilitation processes. It could lead to working as a sports injury prevention specialist, athletic trainer, or physical therapist
- There is a new emerging field called Rehabilitation Engineering which is a branch of biomedical engineering where the focus is on recovery and injury prevention devices, amongst other things.

If you're more interested in research, there is a good chance that you will need an advanced degree such as a Masters or PhD

Hi Emily
To work on preventing sports injuries or researching related technologies, students should consider studying in fields like Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or Biomedical Engineering. These areas focus on understanding how the body moves, how injuries happen, and how to prevent or treat them. Some colleges known for strong programs in these fields include Michigan Tech, Setanta College, and TECH España. Career options after studying these subjects include roles such as Injury Prevention Specialist, Sports Scientist, and Biomechanics Researcher.
Degrees & Majors
1. Exercise Science / Kinesiology: Focuses on human movement, body functions, and injury prevention. For example, Michigan Tech offers a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science that emphasizes preventing diseases and injuries.
2. Sports Medicine: Covers how to prevent, diagnose, and treat sports injuries. Many universities in the U.S. offer both undergraduate and graduate programs in this field.
3. Sports Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation: There are specialized master’s programs, such as TECH’s Master’s in Sports Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation, which prepare students for careers in injury treatment and recovery.
4. Biomechanics / Movement Science: Programs like Setanta College’s MSc in Sports Injuries & Return to Performance Management focus on studying how the body moves and how to help athletes recover and improve performance.
5. Biomedical Engineering: Ideal for designing injury-prevention devices like wearable tech, protective gear, and monitoring tools. This field often combines with sports science research to develop new technologies.

I hope this helps. Wishing you all the best.
