Consider exploring scholarships tailored to music, like the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award and the Marine Band Concerto Competition. You can also look into psychology or social science scholarships from local colleges and national groups. Programs like the Coca-Cola Scholars Program appreciate well-rounded students. To boost your chances, apply to a wide range of scholarships, including those for music, psychology, merit, and need-based awards. Regularly check college financial aid pages and use scholarship search tools like Scholly, Scholarships.com, Bold.org, and Scholarship360. Start gathering your application materials early, such as essays, transcripts, and recommendation letters, to give yourself the best shot at success. You have great opportunities ahead, so go for it!

Hello, Karly !

There are scholarships for your stated major and stated minor but do not hesitate to explore and verify things first. You will find many of the scholarships in your music minor will be offered by specific colleges and can be based on talent and community service. My advice is to apply for all scholarship categories for your planned major, minor and other scholarships you may qualify for.

The National Federation of Music Clubs offers scholarships to undergraduate students, including those who are music minors, based on performance recordings which basically means you'd have to audition. It is also common for schools to require participation in ensembles or applied lessons to maintain the scholarship, even for non-majors and I am not sure how the time commitment would be with a Psychology Major. There is also the John Lennon Scholarships which are open to students pursuing music in various genres and do not require a music major.

For psychology based scholarships, there is The American Psychological Association scholarships, grants, and awards. If you visit the campus you will attend, your Psychology Department and your Financial Aid office might have some scholarship information that doesn't appear online.

Also explore the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship and The Freedom Scholarship, and the Jump Start Scholarship especially for South Dakota students. There are also ones in your state for tribal Indian students if you are in that qualification.

I am going to advise that you really explore your choice of major and your decision to minor. You should Major in Psychology only if you plan to have a career in the mental health field which I see you've stated in your tags. Read the curriculum for the Major at the college you plan to attend. This Major prepares students to further their education with a post graduate degree and go into the mental health field. In addition to class work and studying, most psychology programs require conducting and analyzing laboratory and field research, as well as participating in internships or real life experience in the mental health field.

Also explore how many units of credit is considered a Minor at your college. Colleges have various requirements for a minor, ranging from 15 credits - 35 credits depending on the college. Psychology is a pretty involved Major and you may want to focus on the expectations involved in that program. You could always take single music classes to fulfill a required general education course or as electives if you have time. If your findings show that Psychology will demand more of your time, you can always take music classes in your community or online, but a Psychology Major is going to keep you busy.

So my advice is to reconsider the minor and focus on Majoring in Psychology. Apply for all scholarships that you qualify for. Visit your college for direct information about scholarships that may not be on the internet.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !
