Fashion Marketing?

I am currently interested in fashion marketing for a future career. I am in the middle class, so unfortunately FAFSA won't help me, but I do not have enough money to go to a big, expensive college. I would like to leave Buffalo. What are some colleges that have a good record, outside of Buffalo (and in a good city), that is not 90k a year?

I would love to go to FIT in NYC, but currently I am looking at almost 70k a year. I just do not know if the debt is worth it!!

I don't know a lot about colleges in New York, but here's what I think. It's a hot topic right now. Paying a ton of money for college might not be worth it, though many jobs still ask for a degree. Also, college can also help you get internships, which are not usually offered to those not seeking a degree. Some people (myself included) think college is becoming less valuable, but the fact remains that many employers still prefer candidates with degrees. This might change sooner or later, but it hasn’t happened just yet. If you're worried about the cost of college, focus on gaining experience and building a portfolio. Consider freelance work, like social media, since many employers value experience over degrees. If you're thinking about leaving Buffalo, look into community colleges in the state. They're cheaper than four-year universities and can help you make progress towards a degree while gaining work experience. A quick Google search suggests you might want to check out Genesee or Jamestown, but you'd know better if they're good options. I hope this helps.

Hi Lily,

Wherever you decide to study, look for ways to get involved in your field. For fashion, try joining fashion-focused groups on campus. Also, check out organizations that help students in retail, like the National Retail Federation Foundation, Black Retail Action Group, and the Fashion Scholarship Fund. Connect with companies you're interested in and see if they offer info sessions or networking events you can join.

It’s smart to think about cost and value when choosing a college! Look into schools with strong fashion or marketing programs in cities with vibrant fashion industries, like LIM College in NYC, which is more affordable than FIT, or SCAD in Savannah, which offers scholarships. Public universities with strong business or marketing programs, like the University of Cincinnati or Georgia State, can also be great options in cities with opportunities. Community college-to-university transfer programs are another way to save money while still getting a quality education. Remember, internships and networking often matter more than the name of the school, so focus on finding a program that balances affordability with access to industry connections!
