How good do your math skills need to be to be a forensic scientist? #Spring26
I’m a current high schooler who’s interested in majoring in chemistry, physics, some type of engineering, or forensic science. I’m aware that I’ll need algebra and/or calculus for those other majors, but what about forensic science? What’s the highest level of math I’ll need, algebra? I’m decent at math but not the best.

In statistics, you learn about data collection, organization, analysis, and decision making based on the analysis. Hence, it is a critical tool in forensic science. Based on my understanding, basic introductory statistics would be adequate for forensic science.
You only need College Algebra to be prepared for basic introductory statistics. However, you will probably Calculus I and Calculus II for more advanced courses in statistics.
For future career advancement in forensic science, knowledge in Calculus would be helpful.
