How can I, if possible, ease the path to becoming an MD from Pre-Med all the way to completing Residency??

I am an incoming freshman in college and am already thinking about how I am going to be drained mentally in this path and need some advice about how it will be.

Hi! It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed when you look at the entire journey all at once. Becoming a physician is a long process, but one thing I’ve heard from many medical students is that it becomes much more manageable when you focus on the next step instead of worrying about everything years down the road. During college, your priorities should be earning strong grades, building good study habits, getting involved in clinical or volunteer experiences, and developing relationships with professors who can later write recommendation letters. It’s also important to make time for hobbies, friends, and taking care of your mental health because avoiding burnout is just as important as doing well academically. As you move through each stage, you’ll gain more confidence and experience, and what feels intimidating now will become much more familiar. You don’t have to have your entire medical career figured out as an incoming freshman, so just focus on doing your best each semester and asking for help when you need it. Taking the journey one step at a time can make a long path feel much more achievable.
