What is the best way to get community service hours for transfer resumes?

I'm looking to transfer to UT Austin and I was told I need to get some community service hours for my transfer resume, I don't have a whole lot of time on my hands but I was thinking I could do some volunteering during the summer

Think about when you might have time over the summer. Would you prefer to devote an entire day or weekend to volunteering at a one-time event, like Relay For Life (fundraiser for the American Cancer Society) or a 5K or 10K event supporting a nonprofit? Or do you prefer to spend time once a week, every week, helping seniors or children? Many local governments have a website listing volunteer opportunities. Try this site for some ideas: https://www.cedarparktexas.gov/511/Volunteer-in-Cedar-Park . If possible, try to match your volunteer interests with your future career interests. And, remember to have FUN!

Habitat for Humanity, and Food Bank, Austin Disaster Relief. There are a lot in your immediate area. You may even find digital volunteering as an option too. Just depends on the criteria of what is required for your transfer to move forward. Good luck, you will do well.

Many places welcome short-term volunteer help, even though they might not advertise for it. Check with a local elementary school and ask if they have students who could use extra help with reading or math during the summer. Let them know you have one hour each week (or as much time as you wish to spend). Look for places that serve meals to those who are hungry and offer to help periodically. Find a marathon, walk, or race in your area and volunteer to help with check-in, handing out water bottles, etc. If you have a nearby church, see if they are planning a summer week-long day camp for kids, or something similar, where you might assist.

There are probably other community events in your area where you could volunteer for just a couple of hours. Suggest you do a variety of activities so that you can show broad experience, additional skills, and perhaps experience working with a more diverse group of people.

With every good wish and many blessings,
Karen
