How can you reach out to people who have the job that I want outside of my reach?
I have a bunch of family members who work/ have worked in the medical industry, although I have yet to meet someone who has done sonography.

Breanna’s Answer
Hi Breana! If you’re interested in a career in sonography, one of the best things you can do is start building connections early. You can connect with professionals on LinkedIn by searching 'sonography', reaching out to them for a conversation. Keep the outreach short and respectful, and make it clear that you are trying to learn about the field. Another option is to look for local networking events in healthcare. Also, leverage the experience of your family members and ask them if they can introduce you to colleagues in sonography. Reaching out in these ways can help you build relationships and gain advice from people who are already working in the profession.

Hi Breana. Since you are interested in sonography, there are several ways to find professionals in that field.
You may ask your family members who work in healthcare if they know any sonographers or people who work in imaging departments. Even if they do not know one directly, they may be able to introduce you to someone.
You can also use professional networking platforms such as LinkedIn. Search for sonographers, ultrasound technicians, or medical imaging professionals and send polite messages asking if they would be willing to share their experiences.
Besides, you can contact local hospitals, clinics, or imaging centers and ask whether they offer job shadowing, career talks, or volunteer opportunities. Seeing the work firsthand can help you understand the profession better.

Hi Breana,
LinkedIn is honestly a great platform for this. You can search “sonography” and find people near you with titles like Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or Ultrasound Technologist.
A lot of people are open to answering questions if you keep it short and genuine (you can send a message to them directly). It’s also a really good way to start networking and making connections in the field early on (request virtual coffee chats, etc.).
I hope this helps you find more information about your career of choice!

Start connecting with people in sonography by tapping into your current medical contacts and asking them to introduce you to ultrasound or radiology professionals. You can also network on platforms like Handshake, Indeed, Doximity, Ten Thousand Coffees, Reddit, Facebook groups, and through professional sonography or radiology associations and events. To boost your chances, interact with professionals' posts before reaching out, use alumni networks when you can, keep track of your follow-ups, and aim to create meaningful conversations that can eventually lead to referrals and opportunities.
