What mahor/minor is best for me if I want to work my way up to being a creative director?
Im 17 and I really enjoy design, business and film, and I'm not sure what major or minor would best fit me since I want a job that combines all 3? It might be much but I was originally thinking Major in Graphic Design and Minor in Marketing.

Hi Briana,
How are you? Congratulations on your quest to being a creative director. Working with Creative Directors, they're all artist. They love art. Whether is photography, lighting, painting, they embody the ability to display the best story for the production.
I suggest major in Film and Television Production, Digital Media, or Cinema Studies with a minor: Advertising or Public Relations Your major gives you the vocabulary of framing, editing, storytelling, and visual rhythm. Your minor teaches you why an audience connects with a message and how to pitch ideas to stakeholders.
If you looking to go with a brand and or agency for Advertising & Design Houses, your major: Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or Communication Design with a minor Marketing or Business Administration.
I hope this help!! If you haven't start now, start creating with a mobile phone or any camera you can find. Contact your local brands and businesses to intern or volunteer. And create anything you desire. Keep climbing and seek out creative directors, ask them why they made various questions on the art.

No matter which direction you choose, focus on building strong storytelling skills. While graphic design is changing with the rise of Generative AI, don't hesitate to follow your passion. Just be aware of the new tools available and how they can enhance your work. Remember, creative ideas and content are key, along with understanding the context.
If graphic design excites you, go for it and explore advertising and marketing as your support system. Your goal is to capture an audience's emotions with the creative work you and your team produce.
Best of luck on your journey!

Graphic Design major with a Marketing or Film minor is honestly a strong path for becoming a creative director, because the role blends visual creativity, storytelling, branding, and business strategy and building a great portfolio will matter just as much as the degree itself.
