Is it over for the future of IT?

60,000 people were offered voluntary buyout at Microsoft recently, and this made me think to myself: "They let off 60,000 people, roughly 27% of their workforce, to help fund massive artificial intelligence and data infrastructure. Should I just switch to a career where I think will be untouched from AI where I can make a solid living?" Plumbing, HVAC, Real Estate and other careers are what I believe won't be impacted by AI much, but I have 0% knowledge, experience, and interest in these careers unfortunately. I want to here your opinion, is it over for the future of IT? Not the people who currently work in the field, but for the younger generation coming in?

Stay positive about a tech career, even with changes at Microsoft. Entry-level jobs might be automated more, but you can find a path that matches your strengths, interests, and goals. Learn about AI tools to stay ahead.

Consider fields like cybersecurity, software development, or data engineering. Get real-world experience through projects, internships, or volunteering, and learn what skills local employers seek.

If you like hands-on work, plumbing and HVAC are great options. Don't let fear of AI drive your career choice.

Focus on developing valuable skills and be ready to adapt as technology evolves in the job market.
