Young filmmakers and interns can excel on set by staying prepared and aware. Carrying a notebook and pen helps remember tasks, and knowing when to speak up is key. Film sets have a clear structure and tight schedules, so being prepared is important. Here are some tips to help you succeed:
Communication & Etiquette
- Stay quiet when "Quiet on Set" is called. It's important to keep noise down.
- Avoid interrupting the director or actors while they work. Save your ideas for a better time.
- Use the walkie-talkie correctly. Don't talk over others and keep personal chats off the main channel.
- If you don't understand something, ask questions. It's better to learn than to make a mistake later.
Professionalism & Awareness
- Stay engaged and busy, even during downtime. There's always something to tidy up or prepare.
- Arrive early, about 15 minutes before the call time. Being early shows you're ready.
- Be careful where you walk. Avoid stepping on cables or equipment.
Gear & Preparation
- Don't touch equipment unless asked. Safety is important.
- Dress practically. Wear comfortable shoes and bring layers or rain gear for outdoor shoots.
