What parts of your job do you find the most challenging?

I'm a high school student interested in being an obstetrician! I love being able to make people's lives brighten and to me that brightness for any expecting mother is being able to have their baby and hold him/her for the first time. Great question! It's very important to look at the most challenging aspects of any profession along with the most rewarding. One of the most challenging parts of obstetrics is handling difficult deliveries. Not only are the hours demanding, but dealing with obstetrical emergencies is stressful. Two lives are at stake (mother and child), so physicians must take care to provide the most careful and up to date medical therapy available.

My aunt is an OB Gyn, and the most difficult part of her obstetrics practice was leaving her family on nights and weekends to perform deliveries. In addition to dealing with sleep deprivation, she also had balance taking care of her children and making sure that they were safe and cared for while she was gone.
