Cynthia’s Answer

Criminal investigators aka Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) do not work a typical 40 hour week. The hours per week a CSI works depends on a number of factors, including location and demand.

CSI's working in small cities or rural areas are not likely to experience the fast pace and demand of those working in large cities with higher crime per capita.

Generally speaking, CSI's work long hours and must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Ramesh’s Answer

I would add a small correction here-- criminal investigators are NOT necessarily crime scene technicians. Most of the time--especially in large jurisdictions--CSI personnel are there as support for the investigation. Their job is to collect the evidence and document the scene, then transport the evidence to the lab, where a scientific team (Crime LAB) examines it.
Investigators do the interviewing of witnesses and suspects, develop and follow leads, etc. So there is a difference.

Brett’s Answer

Depends on the week and how the job is structured. The only way to know for sure is to look at a specific department and talk to the investigators working there.
