Hi Ravi,

There are so many benefits of school and college, among them being:

- Knowledge/learning many subjects

- Growing socially and behaviorally

- Opportunities inside and outside of the classroom

- Specializing in your subject

- Sports, extracurriculars and clubs

- College has become increasingly important for job attainment and mobility

Not everyone loves school and/or college, but they provide many opportunities for students to grow, learn, experiment, and “find themselves.” Moreover, having a high school degree (some would argue college degree or even post-graduate studies) is almost essential to finding a well-paying job in the US. Higher education institutions also prepare students for the workforce and (should) teach them about the importance of things like punctuality, individual responsibility, team work, engaging in meaningful dialogue and discussion, and encouraging curiosity.

I also highly recommend talking to others who have been in college, teachers, professors, guidance counselors, etc. to see what their opinions are as well. Personally, I loved college and felt that I gained a ton of knowledge and experience while enjoying everything it had to offer!

Good luck in your journey!

This professional recommends the following next steps:

  • Reflect on what you like (and even dislike) about school. This will help you figure out your goals.
  • Talk with teachers, professors, graduates, etc. to see what their opinions are.

Hi Ravi, When you say school, are you referring to high school? In general, school and college are important because they teach you things that eventually help you to develop into the best person you can be. You may not always use the specific classes that you took later on in your career, but they allow you to develop the ability to think, question, and seek the information that helps you to learn even more. Typically, the more effort you put into your studies the more you get out of it. People never stop learning. There is so much to learn because there are always new developments in different fields including science and technology. You will find that individuals who are very successful in their careers are constantly taking classes and getting certifications to further expand their skillset. Good luck to you in your studies.

Hello Ravi, There are many benefits to attending college and obtaining a degree. "People who lack educational degrees are more likely to be limited to basic jobs in service, manufacturing and construction industries." While employees with college education may be have the opportunity to receive good benefits, greater salaries, promotions, and earn raises all because of the communication skills, problem solving, time management skills and networking they have obtained in a college setting.
