I believe at this point, it important to show that you are being proactive in volunteering or having some kind of experience that you can showcase when you apply for college. Ask for work assisting with the full range of work vets do, including surgery, treatments, routine stuff, and euthanasia of sick animals.

Pay attention to what's going on, ask questions, and read everything you can get your hands on.

And, pay attention to your studies. Veterinary schools are VERY selective, and, sad to say, you need a Plan B. I have a college friend who couldn't get into vet school so she had to settle for medical school. She's a wonderful doctor now.
