If you could change or add something that would improve nursing, as a whole, what would it be and why?

I am asking this because I want to know the weak spots of nursing and what I need to focus more on. #medicine #nursing #nurse #healthcare #registered-nurses #nurse-practitioner #pediatric-nursing #nursing-administration

Hi Ritaisha, your question is an interesting question. I think that the business of the biggest difficulty with nursing today is the frequent short staffing that impacts both health professionals and patients. Sour is good also use improvement. We would certainly benefit from students with an inquisitive mind asking the question what do we need to do to make this discipline better. Best of luck to you. Bob

Sandra’s Answer

Hi Ritaisha,
The significant changes I strongly support are the nurse-patient ratio federal mandate; controlled ratios are needed to improve patient safety and delivery of services; however, if nurses are allowed only a 30-minute break within a 12-hour shift that can extend into longer hours, controlled ratios may not be beneficial such as an ICU RN who may have a 1:1 nurse-patient ratio if no breaks were taken; what is concerning about breaks is that they are not regulated as mandatory; nurses have to rush patient care and other tasks so they can take a break that should be longer like other industries that have employees who only work 8-hour shifts with one-hour breaks, which is the other issue that I support for change.
