how much money would I make as a business major?

I'm currently living in Michigan, but I plan to move to Florida in 3 years. The thing is that currently I'm a financially independent college student who comes from a low-income family, so I really need to know the answer to this question as my financial income is really important

Thank you comment icon Hey There! Being a business major means a broad and diverse catalog of potential future jobs and salaries. If you are gunning for a 'top paying' business gig right out of college, I'd recommend you look into consulting or investment banking. Both career paths require rigorous preparation for interviews, and often are demanding when it comes to hours worked, BUT from them you can also get great experience that will help set you up for even further career success. Depending on what year you are in school, I'd try to get a summer internship if you can! Consulting companies ~typically~ recruit very early in the school year, so you can use this summer to meet with your college counselor, figure out who recruits on your campus, get your resume in shape, and prep for any interviews or cases that may come with seeking a job! Success is relative and we only get one life, so make sure you are optimizing your need for a high salary with other things that bring you joy in life. Good luck! Quin Ruhl

Predicting exact salary figures can be challenging as they depend on various factors such as industry, job role, company size, experience level, and individual performance. However, I can provide you with some general information on the earning potential of business majors and the differences between Michigan and Florida.

Business majors have a wide range of career paths, including finance, marketing, consulting, human resources, and entrepreneurship, among others. The earning potential can vary significantly depending on the specific field and job market conditions.

In terms of location, the cost of living and average salaries can differ between Michigan and Florida. Florida generally has a lower cost of living compared to Michigan, which means your income may go further in terms of expenses. However, the average salaries can also vary based on the local economy and demand for certain skills in each state.

To get a better understanding of the potential income, it is recommended to research specific job roles and industries you are interested in pursuing. You can utilize online resources such as salary databases, job boards, and professional networking platforms to gather information on salary ranges for business professionals in both Michigan and Florida.

Additionally, networking and gaining relevant work experience through internships or part-time jobs can greatly enhance your chances of securing higher-paying opportunities in the future.

Remember that financial success depends on various factors, including your skills, experience, work ethic, networking abilities, and the economic conditions at the time of your job search. It's important to remain flexible and adaptable to the job market, as it can fluctuate over time.

The median annual salary for people with a business degree is USD 65,000 according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This is a bit higher than the median wage for bachelor's degree holders across all fields, USD 60,000. However, several factors can influence salary beyond the field of your degree, such as your:

- Major
- Occupation
- Location
- School

For example, business majors who work in management or business and financial operations occupations tend to earn higher salaries than those who work in other occupations. Additionally, business majors who live in major metropolitan areas tend to earn higher salaries than those who live in rural areas. Finally, business majors who attend top-ranked schools tend to earn higher salaries than those who attend less prestigious schools.

Here are some of the highest-paying business majors and their median salaries:

- Finance USD 84,300
- Management USD 102,590
- Accounting USD 69,350
- Human resources: USD 60,350
- Business and financial operations: USD 76,570

It is important to note that these are just median salaries. The actual salary you earn will depend on a number of factors, including your experience, skills, and location.

There are a lot of great resources online to understand salary ranges for jobs you may be looking for such as Glass Door and Indeed . However, salary ranges are so dependent on the company, industry, location, role, experience, demand etc.

I was a business major as well, my university provided expected salary ranges by business major which was a great baseline for me when I was looking for jobs after graduation. You can likely expect to be around $60K starting out of college.

The salary you can expect to earn as a business major can vary significantly based on several factors, including your specific job role, industry, location, level of experience, and the size and reputation of the company you work for. Business majors have a broad range of career paths, each with its own salary range.

Entry-level positions in business, such as administrative assistants, customer service representatives, or sales associates, typically have salaries that range from around $25,000 to $45,000 per year. As you gain experience and progress in your career, your earning potential generally increases.

Higher-level positions in business, such as management roles, financial analysts, marketing managers, or HR managers, can offer higher salaries ranging from around $50,000 to six-figure incomes. However, it's important to note that these figures are just general estimates and can vary significantly depending on various factors.

Additionally, pursuing advanced degrees, such as an MBA (Master of Business Administration), can also potentially increase your earning potential in the long term.

It's advisable to research specific job roles and industries you are interested in to get a more accurate understanding of salary ranges in your location and field of interest. Consulting salary surveys, industry reports, and job search websites can provide valuable insights into salary expectations in the business field.
