Hi Julie,

If you are in high school then you must have learnt how to do some research, if not sue that school!, I'm joking! Research is the best way to find an answer because when you're in search of an answer you come across many things that you never imagined that they exist! I could do that for you but you might miss many opportunities that you may have an interest in and never get to see.
So for a job with animals start with a google search for careers that involve working with animals
and don't stop there, rephrase your sentence several times, you may possibly get different search results and go from there...looking into each result
For schools, start your search with looking for accredited schools, because the better school that you go to, the easier your struggle for a job will be later as good schools produce highly knowledgable and highly skilled graduates. Once you know what you like, it'll be easier to find a school. Still I'll add a list of schools that offer programs involving a career with animals for you.

Hey, Julie! 👋

That’s great that you’re interesting in working with animals! There are a bunch of degree and careeer opportunities available to you.

Here are some possibilities:
- Veterinary Technology
- Pre-veterinary medicine (Great if you’re interested in going on to vet school after achieving your bachelor degree.)
- Wildlife Biology
- Marine Biology
- Conservation Biology
- Animal Science
- Animal Nutrition
- Zoology
- Ecology
- Environmental Science
- Animal Behavior
- Species-specific animal science programs (Dairy science, equine science, poultry science, fishery science)
- Criminal Justice (You likely won’t work with animals during your studies unless you minor or double major in an animal-related field, but can use this degree to become a K9 handler for law enforcement agencies!)

I’m not very familiar with the colleges and universities in Florida or how reputable their programs are, but here are some links that might be helpful during your search:
- 16 Best Colleges for Animal Science in Florida (https://edurank.org/biology/animal-science/florida/)
- Best Veterinary Science Colleges in Florida (https://www.universities.com/find/florida/best/healthcare/veterinary-science)
- Zoo Science at the University of West Florida (https://uwf.edu/programs/hmcse/interdisciplinary-sciences-bs-zoo-science/)
- Biology B.S. with Animal Biology Concentration (https://catalog.usf.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=13&poid=4865)
- Animal Behavior at the Florida Institute of Technology (https://www.fit.edu/psychology/academics-and-learning/areas-of-study/animal-behavior/)
- Marine Biology at the Florida Institute of Technology (https://www.fit.edu/programs/marine-biology-bs/)
- Biology and Pre-Veterinary Science at the University of Central Florida (https://www.ucf.edu/degree/biology-bs/zoology-and-pre-veterinarian-science/)

If working hands-on with animals is your main interest, look for programs with lab or fieldwork components or that have internship/job shadowing requirements.

Happy college hunting and best of luck! 💜

Amy’s Answer

Your initial move should be to locate a vet who welcomes you to observe their work. Seek one who caters to both small animals within the clinic and large animals through house calls. This will give you a clear idea of the direction you might want to take. This experience can be a stepping stone towards your potential career path, so embrace it with enthusiasm.
