Opening a restaurant is an easy task all it takes is time and twice as much money as you think. Opening a successful restaurant is perhaps the most difficult task you will ever undertake. The commitment of time, money & energy is open ended. A successful owner usually has decades of restaurant experience encompassing all positions. A strong understanding of business, food safety, culinary skills, customer service, Human Resources, leadership & a strong work ethic is essential. Once you think you have the experience, write a business plan to clarify your idea.

Joseph recommends the following next steps:

Get as much practical experience in all restaurant positions as possible
Take a basic accounting course
Research all needed permits and licenses needed & requirements
Get serve safe cert
Research local real estate

Below are my suggestions :
1. Watch more cooking techniques related video on YouTube and read more cook book. Practise the techniques. Practise makes perfect
2. Find out the entry criteria of culinary school, e.g. Le Cordon Bleu, etc. Work hard to meet the entry criteria
3. Attend culinary courses and management courses
4. Explore intern opportunities in famous restaurant, e.g. Michelin ones, etc.
5. Work in the restaurants some time upon graduation to practise your skills, understand the operating model, establish people network, etc.
6. Start the business online first if possible

I’d recommend doing pop-ups at existing restaurants or operating out of a farmers market i Italy. Lower Barrier/cost of entry and you can see how your food is received prior to making a huge investment in a building that may or may not pay off.

Industry has also changed and a large amount of food is delivered to individuals homes. Something to consider as well.

If you want to start your own restaurant, ask yourself these questions:

- Do I have enough money to build the restaurant, pay for the pre-opening salaries, training and initial food & beverage orders, and sustain losses for up to 6 months? This is the reality of the business.
- What is the forecast for sales and profits? Is it realistic, or is it just a dream? Can I afford to take care of my family with this level of profits?
- Why are customers going to come to my restaurant, as opposed to the many other restaurants in the area? What makes your restaurant unique and different?
- Do I have the right organization to run the operation? Somebody with front-of-house knowledge, somebody with back-of-house knowledge and somebody to handle the business side of things (legal, accounting, licenses & permits, etc.)? Can I still run the business if one of these people quits or gets terminated?

Write a business plan, it will give you a roadmap to follow and point out holes in your ideas. Business plans are necessary if you want to get a loan for your business. No lender will look at you without a plan. There are lots of outlines online that can help you.
Just because you like to cook doesn't mean you can work a restaurant so you should get some experience in the industry, ask a local chef to let you hang out for a few days and learn the stuff you don't realize. Inventory, budgeting, scheduling, etc. One of the quotes I say to get people to understand the business is "Cooks order like they are afraid of running out of food, chefs order like they are afraid of running out of money"
Most restaurants fail because they run out of money, plan your finances, monitor food portions and waste.
