Hi Aunnika!

Great question! Like the other answers, I would focus on choosing a major where the material is of interest to you and will keep you engaged rather than trying to find a major that will prepare you specifically for law school or to be a lawyer. I had students in my law school who majored in a wide variety of majors from Biology to History to French so I wouldn't be worried that choosing a specific major will help or hurt your chances to pursue a career in law!

Hi Annika: Lawyers come in all sizes and shapes! Plus there are so many sub- specialities I find it best to major in whatever you like so you get good grades and can takes those skills with you. Let us say you love sports - Phys Ed. major is fine and then you can be a lawyer for professional athletes. Understanding the sport helps you be a better lawyer for the athlete.. If you like business - take business courses so when you become a lawyer you have a basic understanding of business. Law is not a one - size fits all. Law takes all kinds. So at this point in your life - take the courses you enjoy and learn as much as you can - in the end that will make you a better lawyer.

You may choose to major in subjects that are considered to be traditional preparation for law school, such as history, English, philosophy, political science, economics or business.

Just about any major will do but the edu ones are criminal justice type or the most popular ones that must have are the traditional ones of history or English or communications or other tyoes but you should see which type of field you want to go into and takes school for that field criteria before you invest time and money into a field uiu don’t want it won’t have the prerequisites to exceed in the field you chose because you didn’t get the appropriate majors

Deciding on a major may be easier than college undergraduates think, especially if they're planning to apply to law school in the future. Experts suggest that there is no "best" major if you plan to go to law school – the only prerequisite is selecting a field you're passionate about and willing to work hard at.

Ben’s Answer

Great question! Luckily for you, there is no "best" or "ideal" major for law school. Many people choose majors like English, philosophy, and history because those areas tend to involve lots of critical reading and writing, but you can choose whatever you want. The most important thing is to be very interested in whatever you choose. Getting good grades is important if you want to go to law school and it is easier to get good grades when you are genuinely interested in the material.
