How can I stop procrastinating and stay on top of my work while studying to become a pediatric nurse I know nursing school comes with a heavy workload, and I want to develop better time management skills now instead of constantly cramming at the last minute. Are there any strategies or habits that have actually worked for other students or professionals in high-pressure fields??

I’m a freshman in college finishing my second semester. For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with procrastination. No matter how much time I have, I always end up waiting until the last minute—if something is due on Sunday, I won’t start until 6 PM that day. I’ve tried different strategies, like locking my phone away or listening to classical music to help me focus, but nothing ever seems to stick. I really want to break this habit before I get into the nursing program because I know I won’t have time to procrastinate once I’m there. If there’s anything that has truly worked for others, I would really appreciate the advice.

Hey Kendall! You're not alone! Many students struggle with procrastination, especially in high-pressure fields like nursing. One strategy that really works for a lot of people is the just start rule. Commit to working for just 5 or 10 minutes. Once you begin, it’s often easier to keep going. Using time-blocking or the Pomodoro Technique (25 minutes of focused work followed by a short break) can also help turn big tasks into manageable chunks. Set earlier personal deadlines before the actual due date so you build the habit of finishing things ahead of time. Most importantly, treat your study time like a class. Schedule it, show up, and protect it. Building structure now will set you up for success in nursing school, where staying ahead is key to keeping stress low and your confidence high. Good luck!
