To become an Athletic Trainer, a masters degree from an accredited university is required, along with passing board certification through the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, https://bocatc.org/. Additionally, you would need to be licensed by your state’s department of professional regulation. To work as an Athletic Trainer without both of these credentials would be in violation of your state’s Athletic Training Practice Act, which is punishable under state law.
Go to https://bocatc.org/ for further information about educational programs for Athletic Training.

You would need a degree and license in athletic training or physical therapy before having a practice that would focus on sports rehab. Otherwise you would be opening yourself up to lawsuits and a lot of liability for rehabbing injuries when you do not have a license to do so.
You could however focus on sports performance and improving sports skills/athleticism without a degree in athletic training or physical therapy. And if you really wanted for that to be in your business model you could hire someone who is qualified

Hi Amaiya,
Here are my thoughts:
1. Get licensed and insured by checking local regulations for business licenses and certifications. You will need to obtain liability insurance to protect yourself and your clients
2. Gain experience through internship by working in clinics, athletic teams or rehabilitation centers to build hands-on experience. You will also require certification in athletic training and rehabilitation techniques from ACSM or NSCA.
3. It’s important to create a niche by focusing on your target market like professional athletes, amateur teams, or post-injury recovery patients. This will enable you to offer specialized services like injury prevention, performance enhancement, or post-surgical rehabilitation.
4. Research competitors and demand in your area, then draw a business plan as you define your purpose, short, mid and long-term goals.
5. Highlight your program or packages and include startup costs (equipment, space, marketing) and pricing models.
6. Establish your brand by creating a compelling name and logo for your business and build a website with detailed description of your services, testimonials and contact information, also leverage on social media to share tips, success stories and training videos.
7. Choose a location where you will be visible and opt for mobile services when necessary.
8. I encourage networking with health care professionals, trainers, and local sport organizations through conferences to establish partnerships.
9. Market your business, focus on building strong relationships with your clients to ensure loyalty and recommendations.
I hope this helps
