What type of degree would I seek if I was interested in developing and managing online businesses or platforms as well as content creation and would you recommend any type of specialty focus or specific courses ?

I am interested in the field of business and would like to pursue the creation of online businesses, content creation and websites and would appreciate suggestions from anyone in the field. Thank you.

I can speak to content creation - as you may know, content is king. The ability to create watchable content is a gift, if you have it, use it. I'd consider combining your skills in creative with a degree in business and knowledge of social media management.

YouTube is the most watched platform. There are few barriers to entry for folks who know how to engage viewers . Sounds like opportunity is knocking with, or without, a degree. Good luck!

A lot of great recommendations here. At a higher level, understand how businesses work. A business degree will give you a good foundation to do that. I'd recommend mixing in courses like e-commerce, social media strategy, basic web design, and branding. You don’t need to be a coder, but understanding how websites and content work will help a ton.

Also explore outside of school. Look into popular e-commerce sites running on Shopify. Study what they're doing well and take those learnings into your own businesses.

You can do well in this area with a degree in Business Administration. However, if you want something a little more focused, then consider a concentration in - Marketing or Digital Marketing, E-Commerce, or Entrepreneurship.

Digital Marketing would give you skills in: Social Media, SEO, Content Strategy / Branding, Video Production and Editing.
Entrepreneurship would give you skills in: New Venture Creation, Business Models, Financial Management for Startups.

I'd also recommend expanding your knowledge in Web Development (learning HTML, CSS, Javascript or another programming language) and UX/UI Design. There are some great certificate programs out there offered by Google, Meta, and Adobe too.

But if you prefer building web and mobile platforms from scratch, then it would be better to study software development. You can start with courses on Udemy or Coursera.
